How We Research and Rank Cardio Equipment
What we do not do
We do not run our own lab tests on every treadmill, bike, or rower we write about, and we will never say we did. Our rankings come from research and analysis. When a guide includes our own hands-on measurements, that guide will say so clearly and show the numbers.
Where our information comes from
- Manufacturer specifications, owner’s manuals, and warranty terms
- Official sources: the CDC and HHS Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notices and injury data, MedlinePlus (National Library of Medicine), and U.S. Energy Information Administration electricity prices
- Measurable design facts: running deck size, motor rating, incline and speed range, maximum user weight, step-up height, folded and unfolded footprint, machine weight, power requirements, and resistance type
- Public owner discussions and manufacturer Q&A, which we summarize and analyze rather than copy
How we rank
Each guide ranks machines against criteria that fit that type of equipment. Typical criteria include:
- Fit for your home: floor space, ceiling height for incline and running, folding and moving, and noise for apartments
- Fit for your body: maximum user weight with a margin, deck length and width for your height and pace, seat and handle position
- Build and support: frame, motor and flywheel ratings, parts availability, and warranty length on frame, motor, and parts
- Real cost: price tier, subscription fees, electricity, and routine maintenance such as belt lubricant
- Who should skip it: every pick says who it suits and who should look elsewhere
Our use of AI
We use AI tools to help gather and organize published information. Every guide is reviewed and edited by the CardioPicks Team, which makes the final ranking decisions and checks facts against the original sources listed in each guide.
Editorial independence
Brands do not review or approve our guides before they are published. We do not accept payment for placement.
Health and safety
Our guides compare equipment, not treatment. They are not medical advice. Talk with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, and follow the manufacturer’s assembly and safety instructions, including the safety key and child-safety guidance.
Keeping guides current
Models are updated and discontinued often. We review our guides regularly, replace products that are no longer sold, and note meaningful updates at the top of each page.
